It’s the first day of the EFL season – at last – and interestingly, we’ve already spotted a clue that one club’s talisman could be leaving.

Who is it?

Well, Crystal Palace are believed to be in advanced talks to sign Blackburn forward Adam Armstrong.

Norwich are also interested, and were planning a £15m bid.

Blackburn want £20m for their No.7, and rejected Norwich’s offer as well as bids from Crystal Palace and Southampton.

That would suggest Rovers are digging their heels in as they try to keep Armstrong – who scored 29 goals last season – at Ewood Park.

However, the 24-year-old was left out of the matchday squad for today’s Championship opener against Swansea, adding plenty of fuel to the fire.

By the looks of it, Crystal Palace are the favourites to sign Armstrong.

The former Newcastle striker wants to move to Selhurst Park, so it seems like the Eagles just need to meet Blackburn’s valuation.

Should the south Londoners pull this deal off, it would represent another shrewd bit of business in what has been a fantastic summer of recruitment.

Crystal Palace have already signed Michael Olise, Marc Guehi, Joachim Andersen and Conor Gallagher, a fine quartet of additions.

If Armstrong arrives, it would add another exciting dimension to Patrick Vieira’s frontline.
