Adele has a few choice words for those who refer to her weight loss as a ‘revenge body.’
The singer made headlines last year when she took to Instagram and shared a photo of herself in a tightfitted black dress. That post has since garned over 12 million likes. At the time, Adele was in the midst of divorce proceedings with he ex-husband Simon Konecki. In response, many cheered her on and wrongly attributed her slimmer look to her newly single relationship status.
But Adele is here to set the record straight once and for all. In a new interview with British Vogue held at the Cooper Hewitt museum, Adele got candid as to the real reason behind her “100lbs” weight loss and how she did it.
“It was because of my anxiety. Working out, I would just feel better. It was never about losing weight, it was always about becoming strong and giving myself as much time every day without my phone,” she said. Adele explained that the reason why she feels people “lost the plot” when it came to her weight loss was because it was actually over a two-year period.
The singer admitted that she has been working out two or three times a day with a trainer and never sumbitted to any dieting fads. “No intermittent fasting. Nothing. If anything I eat more than I used to because I work out so hard. And also,” she added, “that whole thing of like, ‘Gets Revenge Body’… Oh my god. Suck my d*ck!”
Adele continued: “It’s ridiculous. I think it’s that people love to portray a divorced woman as spinning out of control, like, ‘Oh she must be crackers. She must’ve decided she wants to be a ho.’ Because what is a woman without a husband? It’s bullsh*t.”
As for why she chose to keep her weight loss journey off social media, it’s simple, it wasn’t meant for anyone else.
“People are shocked because I didn’t share my ‘journey’… I couldn’t give a flying f**k. I did it for myself and not anyone else. So why would I ever share it? I don’t find it fascinating. It’s my body.”
