Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have reportedly received a boost in their quest to sign Nicolo Barella, thanks to Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea being on the verge of signing Romelu Lukaku.

What’s the story?

The Daily Mail are reporting that Barella is considering his future at Inter and could ask the Italian champions to let him leave this summer.

That’s because Inter are on the verge of selling former Manchester United striker Lukaku to Chelsea.

The 2021 Champions League winners will re-sign the 28-year-old Belgium international striker in a £98 million.

Inter have already sold Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain.

This has led to worries among the big players at Inter that the club may not be competitive, and Barella could be looking for an exit.

Boost for Liverpool

Why would this interest Liverpool?

Because Klopp’s team have been strongly linked with the 24-year-old midfielder, who won Euro 2020 with Italy this summer.

La Repubblica reported last month that Liverpool are preparing a massive bid of €70 million (£59.33m) for Barella.

We covered the report here on HITC Sport.

Now, if Barella wants to leave Inter, then it will help Liverpool in any potential negotiations.

Barella made 32 starts and four substitute appearances in Serie A last season.

The Inter midfielder scored three goals and gave seven assists in those games.
