Arachnophobes swear by lemon hack to banish spiders from their homes for 20p
It’s already September, which means spider season is also on the way…
As autumn hits Brits have been seeing more creepy crawly arachnids in their homes, which is not good as False Widows and giant house spiders have been cropping up.
This is because house spiders bundle inside our warm houses for another mating season.
But, we wouldn’t blame you if you’d prefer not to spot a scuttling beast in your bedroom because while spiders have their uses – thanks for being free fly-proofing guys – many of us are scared of them.
So, what can you do to prevent spiders from invading your home this autumn?
Well, according to Expert Home Tips rubbing lemon peel on your windowsills, shelves, the corners of your rooms and any other sneaky entrances or hiding places can keep them away.

The cleaning pros also told the Mirror that rubbing lemon on your skirting boards and in your garage can deter the crawling creatures.
Here are some other ways rumoured to keep spiders out of your house:
Peppermint
People have been mixing water and peppermint oil for years to create a spider-free home.
A TikTok user shared the hack online to rave reviews.
She said: “For all of you that do not like spiders, this is a hack.
“You can put peppermint oil and water in a spray bottle. Spray it on the outside of doors, window frames – they’ll stay out of your house.”

Vinegar
This works in the exact same way as peppermint oil – just mix with water and spritz around your home.
Do be warned that this smells strongly at first, but the scent fades as the spray dries.
Lavender
Again, mix up lavender oil and washing up liquid this time and spray it into the corners and onto the windowsills.
The lovely floral smell may drive away the spiders and it will definitely make your home smell divine.

Conkers
While this tip isn’t scientifically proven, it’s a method that’s used by many.
Around the world people have placed conkers in the corners of their home to keep arachnids away.
It’s believed the horse chestnut seeds – which are common in the UK in autumn – release a chemical which kills off spiders within a day of making contact.
