Arsenal icon Marc Overmars “enjoying” Ajax role amid Ray Parlour conversation

Former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars has played down a move back to north London as technical director insisting he is enjoying life in Amsterdam.

The 48-year-old is the director of football at Ajax, a role he has held for nine years.

There has been growing discontent amongst Arsenal fans at current director Edu following a heavy summer of spending but no points to show for it.

The Gunners lie bottom of the Premier League table having fallen to three defeats in their opening three matches.

Boss Mikel Arteta spent more than any other top-flight manager during the recent transfer window.

This frustration has led to Arsenal reportedly looking for a new man to take on Edu’s role with former wideman Marc Overmars topping their list.

Metro report former teammate Ray Parlour has even held talks about the prospect of a return to the club but Overmars is in no rush to leave Ajax:

“As I’ve said before a number of times we’re really enjoying ourselves,” Overmars told Ajax TV.

Overmars made 100 appearances for the Gunners between 1997 and 2000 helping the club win an impressive double in 1998.

He then left to join Barcelona where he became the most expensive Dutch footballer of all time, following a £25m move.
