Emily Mayfield is sick of the trolls attacking her husband.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has been under fire with early-season struggles and a report this week of a shoulder injury. Mayfield suffered the injury to the non-throwing shoulder against the Houston Texans in Week 2 and has been in a harness since.
The 26-year-old signal caller has been downplaying the severity of the injury. He let his frustrations out on a recent Instagram story following his performance against the Vikings.
“People seem to forget how I got here… nothing was given,” the quarterback wrote this week after completing 15-of-33 passes for 155 yards in a 14-7 victory.
“Everything earned. Ups and downs. Came out stronger & better every time. God blessed me with the mental and physical strength to not only make it through adversity, but to also grow through those trials that nobody else could handle.”
His wife followed suit on her own Instagram. She fired off multiple posts showing her “through thick and thin” support of the quarterback. She posted a meme that had the caption “BREAKING: Local hero explains how he would have made that throw on Sunday”. She voiced her frustrations saying “There’s like 4,000 local heroes in my DMs every weekend. Don’t be that guy. K thanks.”
Emily has proven to be a mental health advocate on Instagram by posting inspirational quotes and giving advice to “cut people some slack.” She reposted that it is Mental Health Awareness Week with the caption, “And guess what, this goes for EVERYONE. Even those you don’t suspect. Be kind. You don’t know what someone is going through”.
Baker posted an excerpt of an article by ESPN’s Jacob Trotter that talks about his “drastic recommitment to eating smarter and exercising harder”. Baker gave credit on the post to his nutritionists, his brother and loving wife. She humbly reposted saying “It’s mostly you. We just help where we can.”
While Baker’s numbers are down this year, Cleveland is 3-1 after opening the season with a loss to Kansas City.
Emily’s Instagram is filled with game day pictures, rocking her husband’s number, and making it known when the Browns get a big win.
