Barbra Streisand Slams ‘A Star Is Born’ 2018

Speaking recently about what she truly thought about the movie that premiered on October 12, 2018, Streisand disclosed that she got firsthand information that the main cast would be Beyoncé and Will Smith. However, as things played out in the end, it was still great to watch Cooper and Gaga in the movie.

Furthermore, she noted that she was expecting something entirely different including ‘different kinds of music, integrated actors, and so on.’ But, Streisand went on say that she was completely shocked when the movie premiered and it had similar elements from the 1976 version that she was featured in.

Streisand wants the world to know that she is in no way attacking the actors who spent day and night rehearsing their lines so that they could bring the beautiful story to life. However, she’s putting it out there that the 2018 remake lacked originality, and for those that watched the 76’ version, it felt like they had to relive the same thing over again.

Why She Did Not Speak Up Before

In her recent argument, Streisand explained that she went along with the movie and the pull it had on the media because she could not speak about it at that time. She explained this by saying that it was difficult to really say anything because the movie was breaking many records.

In essence, the movie was so popular that talking about it may have been seen as trolling or trying to pull down its success. The “What Kind Of Fool” singer said; “… It was a big success, so I can’t argue with success, but I don’t care so much about success as I do originality.”

The original movie was produced back in 1954 and it starred the now late iconic actors, James Mason and Judy Garland. Garland was found dead in her rented apartment on June 22, 1969, 12 days after she celebrated her 47th birthday. Further investigations revealed that the actress had taken about 1.5 grain of a barbiturates capsule known ad Seconal, which resulted in an overdose.

Mason on the other hand, first recovered from a heart attack in 1959, however, 25 years later, he had another heart attack which led to his death in Lausanne, Switzerland.

While Streisand may not agree with what the producers and directors of the movie did, as she believes elements of originality was lost in the film. Nevertheless, this movie is regarded as one of the most popular movies of 2018, and a must-watch for every viewer who appreciates musicals.
