Barcelona line up another Ferran Torres transfer move after Man City rejected summer offer for Spanish youngster

BARCELONA are weighing up a fresh swoop for Manchester City forward Ferran Torres next year – after seeing their initial move knocked back in the summer.

The cash-strapped Catalan giants were hoping to land the Spain international, 21, on loan with a promise to make the transfer permanent further down the line.

Barcelona plan to move back in for Ferran Torres, 21, after his positive start to the season

But the proposal for the former Valencia wide man was laughed off by Pep Guardiola and the Etihad hierarchy.

Torres did not play as much as he hoped in his first season at City after moving for a knockdown fee of just £20.8million in summer 2020.

But he still did enough in his few opportunities to impress his new manager – and City believe there is much more to come from him.

This season, he has become a hugely important man for Guardiola as a central striker after they failed to land a replacement for Sergio Aguero in the summer.

He has started all but one league game so far this campaign and contributed two goals and an assist.

And the only game he has not featured in was City’s 0-0 draw with Southampton last weekend.

Torres, who added another goal in the Carabao Cup in midweek, is viewed as one of his country’s hottest young prospects and did his reputation no harm by starring at the Euros in the summer.

The forward scored two goals in four games to help his country reach the semi-finals.

And Barca plan to try again next summer – with new chief exec Mateu Alemany knowing Torres well from their days together at the Mestalla.

Ronald Koeman is in need of attacking recruits after seeing Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann depart in the summer.
