3. Squatty Potty Unicorn Gold Toilet Spray

The Squatty Potty Unicorn Gold Toilet Spray is like the kids’ version of Poo-Pourri Spray. They come in 5 different flavors namely Citrus Squeeze, Mystic Forest, Tropical Dropsicle, Fruity Booty & Pinch of Vanilla. The Fruity Booty scent smells like the zebra fruit stripe gum from my childhood. It smells a lot like Froot Loops cereal. The bottle says it is Cherry and Mixed Berries but it really reminds me of Froot Loops or even, Fruity Pebbles, no pun intended there. The Mystic Forest states there are notes of bergamot and bay leaf. Mystic Forest is definitely a more masculine scent. The bay leaf is the prominent aroma with a background of bergamot. Of the two scents, I prefer the Fruity Booty….it is a bit more feminine. I love the smell of Bergamot but it doesn’t come through enough in the Mystic Forest scent.

Pros
  • Great for kids
Cons
  • Spray smell doesn’t last as long as lead brands

They are a small brand from Texas, they make Anti-odor eco-friendly air fresheners to be used in rooms, linens, pet bedding, shoes, car, garage, bathroom, curtain, fabric, upholstery for that spa bora clean scent. This is a multi-purpose spray and also works effectively in toilets.

  • Not specifically made as a toilet spray

Buying Guide

Purpose a Poo-Pourri scent serves

Poo-Pourri is essentially an aerosol or spray that comes in perfectly handy for arresting the spread of obnoxious odors emanating from the toilet bowl. Or it would be more specific to say that a Poo-Pourri helps in preventing the breaking out of horrible toilet scents even before they erupt. Formulated from a blend of refreshing scents and essential oils, Poo-Pourri is a tad higher in profile than aromatic sprays that struggle to keep out the repugnant smell of poop.

The USP of an aerosol containing Poo-Pourri is that you can use it in several areas of your home. You can spray Poo-Pourri not only in your toilet but also in your kitchen sink, garbage bin, and so on. Another noticeable benefit of a Poo-Pourri bottle is that it is eminently portable; you can easily carry it anywhere for use outdoors.

So, essentially Poo-Pourri comes to your aid not only when you’re at home but also when you’re venturing out. You can use it in your office loo and in your friend’s or relative’s home as well as in a hotel or public toilet. Put, a Poo-Pourri bottle or aerosol saves you from embarrassing situations when you have got the urge to use a restroom or toilet outside your home.

Does Poo-Pourri Work?

Theoretically speaking, Poo-Pourri works as perfectly as any other off-the-shelf or over-the-counter toilet/bathroom spray as their manufacturers or producers claim. Poo-Pourri, by and large, is prepared from natural essential oils which makes different blends of the spray very effective. Essential natural oils, we know, have been used for a long time, and extensively at that for developing aromatherapy products.

Aromatherapy makes the most of aromatic or perfumed essential oils for boosting physical and mental health. So when these same essential oils are used in a highly concentrated form for concocting Poo-Pourri, it has similar effects. When you spray Poo-Pourri in your toilet or kitchen, the whiff is quite strong and the aroma lingers for a long time.

Essential oils owing to their impermeability, check the microscopic particles released from feces sitting in the toilet from permeating through the water and infiltrating into the air. Squirt or spray Poo-Pourri once or twice inside your toilet seat and the effects of the whiff will last for at least 4-5 hours.

Working Mechanism

The working mechanism of a Poo-Pourri spray comprises a two-step integrated process. The first or primary step entails the effects of the essential oils you can choose from a wide range of scented formulations. No matter whichever brand or formulation you select, you can rest assured that the results (or effects) will be nearly identical.

Choosing a brand of Poo-Pourri is very much like buying a room freshener or deodorizer. In other words, irrespective of the deodorizer or room freshener brand you ultimately buy, it eliminates foul odors lingering in the bathroom or kitchen. The second or final step is more crucial, and it involves masking the real issue i.e. the toilet malodors.

Essential oils, the basic ingredients in Poo-Pourri, form a veneer or a thin film after spreading on water. Oil being largely impermeable (and hence immiscible) settles atop the water surface as a slim layer, thereby preventing the microorganisms in decomposing matter from escaping out.

How exactly do you use a Poo-Pourri spray?

You use it in the same way as you’d use your favorite perfume (is it Chanel No. 5 or Miss Dior?). But instead of directing the Poo-Pourri under your arms or beneath your neck, you spray it inside the commode or flush toilet. The spray sits as a film or coating on the water surface, screening the odor as well as prevents water droplets from splattering your bum, urgh!

After you’re through with defecation, all your nostrils pick up is a reinvigorating whiff of natural/essential oils. As humans, we’ve done our best (and continue to) to drive away from the nauseating and revolting odor of the poop that is defecated through bowel movements. When you picture yourself squatting on the toilet seat, you tend to think of room fresheners and exhaust fans automatically.

However, we know that these products fall short when it comes to driving out that repellent and the disgusting stench from your toilet. And this is exactly where the Poo-Pourri comes as a saving grace. Just spray the aerosol a couple of times into the toilet bowl before you perch, and you can bet your toilet will smell of natural oils.

Using The Spray Safely

Can you safely use Poo-Pourri? That is to say, will the spray have any adverse effects on your health? On the other hand, will Poo-Pourri harm or impair the septic tank or system in any way? Answering the first question, an aerosol filled with Poo-Pourri if and when sprayed often does not cause any health issues.

In case you’ve and continue to use aromatherapy products, you’ll know better. If you follow ‘how to use’ instructions, there’s no reason for you to worry about the spray jeopardizing your health. There’s no gainsaying that you should not consume the product or apply it topically.

Now, coming to the 2nd question, a Poo-Pourri aerosol is very portable, which means it contains a small number of essential oils. That said the septic tank in your toilet would need a greater amount of essential oils than found in a Poo-Pourri bottle for getting affected. You’d need to release a good amount of essential oils in a highly concentrated form to cause damage to the septic system.

Does it make sense to buy Poo-Pourri?

Now we come to the million-dollar question: Should you spend your hard-earned money purchasing a Poo-Pourri aerosol? Those who have already used the various Poo-Pourri brands available in the market have corroborated the worthiness of the same. So, if you’re thinking of buying a bottle to disguise nasty toilet odors, you’ll not be displeased.

Nevertheless, contrary to claims made by Poo-Pourri producers, the aerosol does not contain sufficient (amount of) essential oils to form an oily film with just one spritz. So, if you wish to create a noticeable layer, you’ll have to spray multiple times, implying that you’ll have to repurchase repeatedly. However, if you gauge the effectiveness of the product when it comes to disguising the foul odors, it comes through.

The long and short of it all is that you can rely on Poo-Pourri for keeping your toilet smelling good.
