Bride causes outrage by banning groom’s 98-year-old gran from wedding reception

A bride-to-be caused outrage after banning her fiancé’s 98-year-old grandmother from her wedding reception.

The woman said that she doesn’t want the grandmother at the wedding reception because she wants it to be a ‘party atmosphere’ and the elderly relative will be ‘out of place’.

She took to Reddit to explain the situation, saying: “My fiancé and I are getting married next month.

“Everything is going great but we’ve been having a serious argument about having his grandmother at our wedding.

“We’ve agreed to not have kids at our wedding as we want the reception to be a huge party for your adult friends and family with dancing, loud music and an open bar.

“However, for precisely the same reasons that we don’t want kids there, I won’t want his elderly grandmother at our wedding either.”

The bride, who has no living grandparents herself, said the gran can come to the ceremony, just not the reception.

“It will be extremely loud and I want it to be a party atmosphere, and she will be extremely out of place. For context, none of my grandparents are still alive and he still has his last living grandmother,” she added.

The woman said her request has caused massive fall-out amongst the family and now the grandmother won’t talk to her.

“This has caused a huge fight, since she said she has always dreamed about being at her grandson’s wedding (he is her oldest grandchild and she probably won’t make it to the next family wedding),” she added.

People have slammed the bride over her request

“She and he both insist that she will be fine and wants to go to the party. But I just know it will inevitably lead to us dealing with her and taking care of her, and I just want to get drunk and let loose with my friends.

“She’s now really upset and won’t talk to me, and my fiancé is also angry. I think I am within my right to make this request, I am the bride after all.”

The post has since been shared to Twitter, where it’s gone viral.

Some social media users have called the bride ‘selfish’ and suggested the fiancé ends the engagement.

One fumed: “I hope he ends the engagement because if she’s willing to ban his GRANDMOTHER from the reception, he’s in for an awful ride. And not because the grandmother did anything to her, but because she’s inconvenient. I feel so awful for his grandmother, this must be so hurtful.”

While another added: “All I can think about is how much I would give for any of my grandparents to be able to be at my future wedding. This is such a horrible thing to do to someone you love.”

A third chimed in: “If I were the groom, I’d break that engagement. His grandmother may want to see him get married, but not to a person as selfish as this.”
