Bride slammed for lying about child-free wedding to exclude niece over her appearance

A furious wedding guest took to Reddit to ask users whether they were in the wrong for confronting the bride and groom about their strict wedding rule after they were accused of ruining the big day

The couple said they didn’t want any children at their wedding

A bride has been slammed after she was caught lying about having a child-free wedding to avoid inviting her niece.

The bride’s sister was furious when she discovered the truth about her wedding after she arrived at the do to find loads of other children there.

On Reddit, the woman explained that her 15-year-old stepdaughter, Jane, has a burn scar on her neck and over half of her face from an accident that took place four years ago.

She added: “She’s already gotten tons of insensitive comments but to me and her dad she’s still the most beautiful soul. My family’s been supportive and loving towards Jane.”

Revealing that her sister and now-husband got married a few days previously, she added: “They told me and my husband they decided the wedding will be childfree. Meaning Jane couldn’t come.

“They asked if that’d be okay and we said yeah absolutely! We respect the bride and grooms rules.”

But when the day rolled around, they couldn’t believe their eyes.

“My husband and I got to the venue and the first thing we noticed was kids… Kids of all ages all around the venue. My husband literally stopped walking. He paused for few seconds, looked at me then let go of my hand and said he was outta there.

“He walked out but I stood still when mom saw me and signalled me to come to join the family. But I didn’t go. I asked one of the guests who had his kid with him and he said this event allowed kids. I was seeing red at this point cause I was fooled into leaving Jane at home and coming with my husband only.”

Confused, the woman claims she went straight over to her sister and husband to confront them, asking them why they hadn’t allowed their niece to come too.

“I blew up at them asking why they lied about this being a child-free wedding when it wasn’t. I asked them in front of everyone why they decided to basically lie to me and my husband and get us to exclude our daughter?

“Why? Is Jane somehow different from the other kids who showed up?

“My sister tried to calm me down but I bluntly asked if It was cause her step-niece has a burn scar/visible injury that she and her husband were too ashamed of.”

At this point, the woman said that her mum tried to shoo her off the stage, but she stood her ground and proceeded to call the couple “awful, insensitive people with no respect for me nor their niece.”

“My sister started crying saying she would never and that I misunderstood and my BIL begged me to go sit but I refused and said I wasn’t interested in celebrating/supporting their marriage after this.”

The angry guest was criticised for being “out of line” and “disrespectful” to the bride and accused of ruining the wedding, before being told that the decision to not invite their niece was the groom’s.

She concluded her post by asking Reddit users if she was in the wrong for confronting her sister at the event, but everyone was on her side.

One person said: “They deserved every bit of embarrassment.”

Another agreed: “Yep. Just showed all their friends and family the true versions of themselves.”

“Definitely worthy of public shame for that,” said a third user.

Someone else added: “Exactly, everyone should know exactly what they did. Sister probably isn’t even upset she did it, just that everyone knows why.”
