Bride who recovered from car accident overjoyed after trying on dream wedding dress

A young bride who almost lost her leg in a car accident was filled with joy when she found her dream wedding dress with the help of Gok Wan.

Bride-to-be Emily was run over by a lorry in a freak accident two years ago and had to undergo life-changing surgeries which made her confidence hit rock bottom.

“I had to learn to walk again and then from there it took me just about over a year to heal. I am still recovering,” she told Gok Wan as she shared her story in the latest episode of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress.

“I’ve put lot of weight on. My confidence levels were shattered to start with. I hated myself, I hated the way I looked.”

Emily had originally bought a wedding dress but with her weight gain from a size eight to a size 16, she turned to Gok Wan for help in search for a new gown.

Meeting the fashion consultant at Ava Rose Hamilton Boutique in Colne of Lancashire, she admits that she is in mourning for her previous body shape.

Presenting Emily with dress number one, Gok instantly brings the positive vibes, as Emily gets excited.

“I love it,” she smiles, much to Gok’s delight. “Trying the first dress, it means a lot.

“It’s me overcoming my fears because I’ve really struggled with my confidence. I never, ever thought I’d ever feel like this.

“I literally took a step back and thought, ‘I can’t believe I’ve done this,’ I’ve actually gone and done it. I feel so proud of myself!”

But wanting to see Emily beaming in the same way she did wearing her original dress, Samantha and Gok feel it’s time to try something more classic to really spur Emily’s confidence on.

Gok gives a second dress to Emily to try – a tube dress with lace details but adding the veil and diamanté belt from her original dress.

“I’m trying not to cry,” Emily giggles. “I love it, I’ve never really stood this long looking at myself without wanting to put something over the mirror,” she says.

Mum Samantha and sister Charlotte look stunned when they see Emily making her way downstairs to show them the dress.

“She looks like she’s about to walk down the aisle and have the best day of her life,” Charlotte says.

Even after persuading Emily to try on a third dress, it is clear that her mind is made up.

Gok couldn’t wait and asks Emily: “Are you confident enough now to get married with this brand new, beautiful, courageous, brave body?

“And are you brave enough to say yes to the dress?”

Emily grins from ear to ear and answers: “I will say it. Yes to the dress.”
