Britney Spears won’t face charges for fight with housekeeper

Britney Spears dodged criminal charges for allegedly slapping a phone out of her housekeeper’s hands during an argument last month, the Ventura County District Attorney said on Wednesday.

“Misdemeanor Unit Supervisor Blake Heller thoroughly reviewed the case submitted by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, and declined to file charges based upon insufficient evidence that a crime had occurred and the lack of injury to the housekeeper or significant damage to the phone,” DA Erik Nasarenko said in a statement.

The “Baby One More Time” star and her housekeeper allegedly had a spat on Aug. 16 in Spears’ Thousand Oaks home about the veterinary care of Spears’ dog.

The housekeeper told cops that the clash over the canine escalated to the point Spears slapped the phone from her grip, but responding officers said the housekeeper had no visible injuries and reported damage only to the phone’s screen protector, Nasarenko said.

Spears’ attorney Matthew Rosengart credited the prosecutor in a statement to Page Six and called the incident “very minor” with “no striking and obviously no injuries.”

“As I have previously-stated, this was nothing more than sensationalized-tabloid fodder – an overblown ‘he said, she said’ regarding a cellphone,” Rosengart said. “If this involved Jane Doe rather than Britney Spears it would not have been pursued or covered at all.”

“Anyone can make an accusation, but this should never have made it this far and we are glad the DA’s Office has done the right thing,” the attorney continued. “Sadly, it is apparent that some have learned nothing from the past, and we sincerely hope the media and others will be more respectful of Ms. Spears in the future.”

The “Toxic” star is still tied up in court in a conservatorship battle with her father Jamie Spears even after he agreed to step down sooner or later.

The singer’s lawyers just filed paperwork accusing Spears’ dad of demanding about $2 million as part of a deal to back out of the 13-year conservatorship.
