Kevin Campbell has told the Highbury Squad that there is ‘more pressure’ on Joe Willock at Arsenal than at Newcastle.
The Arsenal legend feels that Willock has qualities that Arsenal ‘don’t have’, as the Hale-End academy product could now be heading to Newcastle.
After a successful short loan stint at St James’ Park last season, it seems as though Willock’s goalscoring talents from the middle of the park could result in a £25 million move to the North East.
Those very same goalscoring talents are what Arsenal need in their midfield, as Campbell shared his thoughts on his future.
“Joe Willock has had opportunities at Arsenal,” said Campbell. “But the fact of the matter is, when he went to Newcastle, and remember he didn’t start every game.
“But whenever he came onto the pitch, he was given the license to play his game. I just think there is a lot more pressure on Willock at Arsenal because he has come through the ranks and he knows the opportunity window is so small.
“He scored a lot of goals against Newcastle. Came on against Chelsea and scored a legitimate goal.
“I know there’s money on the table for him. But a goalscoring midfielder is something we don’t have.”
This is the problem that faces Arsenal, on one hand, they need a goalscoring midfielder in their team.
But on the other, they need the money in order to move their squad forward and re-invest because those running the club aren’t exactly going to dip their hands into their own pockets.
Either way, this is where Willock needs to be selfish and pick the team that will provide him with the most minutes.
He did that in January when he moved to Newcastle and then soon found himself scoring in seven consecutive Premier League matches.
