“It’s been 33 years clean for me. From jails, institutions, car crashes, motorcycle accidents, hospitals, bankruptcy, heart attack & cancer,” Sandy wrote in the caption. “I felt like a hopeless human being, always in trouble, people turning away from me because I was so destructive. The day finally came when I had my last drink and drug on August 29th, 1989. My life is beyond my wildest dreams.”

Captain Sandy Yawn helped RHOC with her sobriety

The Real Housewives of Orange County alum Braunwyn Windham-Burke credited the Below Deck Med star for her sobriety. She was aware of the Bravo star’s sobriety. Braunwyn reached out to Sandy’s girlfriend Leah Schafer and asked to speak with her. After an hour-long conversation, she asked Sandy if it was possible to be sober and on reality TV.

“Absolutely, but you need to own it on the show,” Sandy told Braunwyn. “You need to be accountable, otherwise, you’re going to drink again.”
