CC Sabathia questions Yankees after wild-card loss to Red Sox

CC Sabathia isn’t happy with his former team after the Yankees were bounced out of the playoffs on Tuesday.

Following the Yankees’ 6-2 loss to the Red Sox in the wild-card game, Sabathia questioned the team’s approach to playing their longtime rival.

“Our core lost to a team in [2018], that’s not even the same Red Sox … Mookie [Betts], Jackie Bradley, [Andrew] Benintendi … they traded all them,” Sabathia said on his R2C2 podcast.

The six-time All-Star pitcher, who won the Cy Young Award in 2007, was part of the 2018 Yankees squad that was eliminated in five games by the rival Red Sox in the ALDS.

“We still have the same core. We come back to Boston four years later and lost to a completely different core … What the f–k are we doing wrong?” Sabathia said.

They did a lot wrong on Tuesday.

Starter Gerrit Cole was removed from the game after recording just six outs. The offense struggled to mount many threats against starting pitcher Nate Eovaldi and Boston’s patchwork bullpen.

Sabathia played for the Yankees for 11 years, and won a title with the team in 2009.
