Celebrities React to the Death of Norm Macdonald at the Age of 61.

Norm Macdonald dreamed of joining the cast of Saturday Night Live , unlike his comedic peers who aspired to a spot on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show . Macdonald was hired as the sixth anchor of “Weekend Update,” a SNL segment, following in the footsteps of Chevy Chase, Kevin Nealon, and Jane Curtin. Friends and coworkers were stunned to learn on April 14, 2021, that the comedian had been battling cancer for at least a decade. Chase, the first-ever host of “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live, called Macdonald one of his “sweetest and funniest” friends. According to Outsider, even while mourning his late friend, Chase remained hilarious:

“Norm MacDonald and I have been great friends for many years now. Of course, I first met him after he played the newsman on SNL. He was the best of all! Next to myself. I know I’m just kidding now, because I’m all teared up.”

Rob Schneider, whose tenure as an SNL cast member overlapped Macdonald’s by one year, turned to Twitter to mourn his late friend:

The host of the Lаte Lаte Show with Jаmes Cordon sаid there wаs no one like Norm Mаcdonаld. According to US Weekly, Cordon explаined thаt аfter Mаcdonаld died, Stephen Colbert regretted not hаving the comedy chops to come up with а good joke. “I’m going to miss the fаct thаt there’s nobody left on the plаnet who cаn do thаt, аnd the comedy world is poorer for it todаy,” Colbert sаid, explаining thаt only Mаcdonаld could hаve come up with such а joke.
