As children get older, there’s one task many parents might struggle to get them to do and that’s clean their own rooms.

When they reach their teenage years, some simply won’t be bothered by the mess, while others might be too busy having a social life to even notice.

But as you strive to keep the rest of your home tidy and clean, your child’s bedroom might become a point of contention amongst your family, with you constantly nagging them to sort it out.

If this sounds oh so familiar to you, then one parent might have a “genius” solution that could solve your problem.

A dad named Chad McHunt has gone viral on social media after sharing the sneaky way he tricked his teenage children into cleaning their bedrooms.

In a post on Facebook, he explained that all you need is a bag of black rice.

He wrote: “So, I have teenage kids. I’m always arguing with them about not eating in their room, returning dirty dishes to the kitchen.

“I threatened that they’re going to end up with a mouse in their room that will bring friends to the house… I got tired of singing the same song and decided to teach them a lesson.”

He continued to say: “I went to Whole Foods, purchased some black rice and sprinkled it in their closet, under their bed, I even added a few under their covers.

“It looks like mice droppings and it scared the s**t out of them.

“Needless to say – we don’t have that room cleaning issue anymore.”

His post has since been shared over 87,000 times by parents grateful to him and vowing to try the trick out for themselves.

Some branded Chad a “genius” while others said it was “clever” – mostly people just found the whole situation very “funny”.

One person said: “I going to do that for sure!!! Thanks for the great idea!!”

Another replied: “I’m stealing this idea, but with my luck, they’ll want to feed the poor mice I know that my son would have definitely fed the mice!”

A third commented: “Friggin LOVE THIS.”
