Daniel Cormier believes Petr Yan vs. Cory Sandhagen for the interim UFC bantamweight title has the potential to be a highly entertaining fight. On the official Daniel Cormier YouTube channel, the 42-year-old said:
“And we had to sit on this (news) during the broadcast, when in reality, you’re jittery thinking about a fight between Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen..” Because it’s one of those fights that has the potential to blow the roof off any building in which you compete. Because you have one of the most, I mean, meticulous in his approach in Petr Yan. And he has the ability to break you down. Jose Aldo was knocked out by him. Early on, the fight was competitive. But as the fight progressed, you could see Petr continue to extend his lead over the great champion Jose Aldo. ”
Daniel Cormier mentioned that Petr Yan extended his lead against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259, gradually breaking him down. Yan’s only mistake against Sterling, according to DC, was throwing an illegal knee, which resulted in his disqualification and loss of the title.
Cormier then addressed Cory Sandhagen, saying,
“After losing to TJ Dillashaw in a razor-close fight, you thought it might take some time (to win the title).” ‘All I want is to be one fight away (from a UFC title shot),’ Cory said. What’s more, my friend, you’re not even one fight away from winning. He is currently in a title fight with Petr Yan. If Sandhagen defeats Yan, he will be able to avenge a previous loss to Aljamain Sterling in a rematch, this time with a UFC title on the line.
Petr Yan could reclaim his UFC title with victories over Cory Sandhagen and Aljamain Sterling.
Petr Yan lost his UFC bantamweight title to Aljamain Sterling via DQ (Disqualification) in round four of their fight at UFC 259. The rematch between Yan and Sterling was originally scheduled for UFC 267. Sterling, on the other hand, was not medically cleared to compete at the event and had to withdraw from the fight. Petr Yan will now fight Cory Sandhagen for the interim UFC bаntаmweight title on October 30th, 2021, аt UFC 267.
