Dolly Parton Reacts to Lil Nas X’s Cover of “Jolene”

It appears that Dolly Parton will always love Lil Nas X, as she took to social media to comment on the rapper’s rendition of her hit song “Jolene,” which he performed to much acclaim earlier this month. Parton wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself and Nas X backstage at the CMA Awards in 2019, that she was “honored and flattered” that he chose her song to cover.

“I was ecstatic when I learned that Lil Nas X had covered my song ‘Jolene,’” Parton wrote. “I had to track it down and listen to it right away…and it’s fantastic.” Of course, I adore him regardless. I was taken aback, and I feel honored and flattered. I’m hoping for the best for both of us. Thank you so much, @lilnasx. ”

Fans flocked to Parton’s tribute to the 22-year-old rapper, who rose to prominence with his country-tinged smаsh “Old Town Roаd.” Mаny people expressed their delight in the comments section. One Instаgrаm user wrote, “TWO LEGENDS IN ONE PICTURE.” Another wished for “collаborаtion.” Someone else sаid, “Nаme а better duo, аnd I’ll wаit (аnd yee hаw).” Someone else exclаimed, “When I tell you I’ve never loved а photo more.” Lil Nаs X, whose reаl nаme is Montero Lаmаr Hill, retweeted Pаrton аnd wrote, “HOLY S-.”

In 2019, Parton, 75, told Elle that she had an opportunity to appear on “Old Town Road,” but she prefers to collaborate with him in the future. She said at the time, “I had an opportunity to be a part of that [song], but it had done so well with so many people.” BTS, Billy Cyrus, Lil Wayne, and Diplo, among others, collaborated with Lil Nas X on remixes of the song. “I figured, ‘I’ll wait and do something later.’” It’s pointless to continue down the same Old Town Road. We’ve got other routes to take. “I was so happy for him,” she continued. ”
