Eerie aerial pictures of abandoned Camelot theme park inspired by King Arthur

Visitors flocked to see knights battling it out in jousting tournaments, thrilling rides and shows, including Merlin’s wizardry, at this incredible theme park in Chorley, Lancashire

Inspired by the legend of Camelot, this medieval-style theme park was once of the north’s leading tourist attractions – but now lies abandoned.

Eerie aerial pictures capture the much-loved theme park, once bustling with screaming children, abandoned and bare.

These photos offer a trip down memory lane from when the park attracted thousands of visitors in its heyday, reports Lancashire Live.

The King Arthur-inspired park was boarded up in 2012, with owners blamed the park’s decline on bad weather and events like the Olympics.

The aerial photos, taken on October 8, show that the site is now a concrete hole apart from two structures that have stood the test of time.

Incredibly, the Avalon Arena is still intact – which was the only full-time jousting arena in the UK.

Guests would gather around to watch a live joust performed by Camelot’s own knights who were led by an actor playing King Arthur.

Other shows included Merlin’s Magic Show, Merlin’s School of Wizardry and the Birds of Prey show.
