THE Wanted star Tom Parker says he was so terrified he would die that he couldn’t get out of bed after being diagnosed with cancer.
Married dad-of-two Tom, revealed in October last year that he had an inoperable stage 4 glioblastoma — which doctors described as “the worst case scenario”.
Appearing on Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer show with his bandmates, 33-year-old Tom spoke candidly about facing death.
“Cancer can consume you very quickly and very easily,” he said.
“There was a time at the start of this journey where I couldn’t get out of bed.
“I was so consumed by cancer. It wasn’t the physical side of things, it was the mental side of things.
“I kept thinking ‘I’m going to die, so what’s the point in getting out of bed?'”
Asked by host Davina McCall how he dragged himself out of the darkness, he replied: “I had to, for my kids.
“I had two under two and a wife. You have to pick yourself up and get on with it.”
The singer spoke of his brave cancer battle in his Channel 4 documentary, Tom Parker: Inside My Head.
Tom was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and given just 18 months to live when it was discovered he had an inoperable brain tumour in 2020.
The star has since undergone six rounds of chemotherapy and 30 radiotherapy sessions – giving him higher chances of beating the disease.
In the documentary, Tom revealed what is was really like in the days after getting his diagnosis from doctors.
“Scared is an understatement. I was petrified,” he said to the camera as he broke down in tears.
“I couldn’t stop thinking about death, is the honest truth.”
