Former Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter was once tagged as the new Steven Gerrard and, while he hasn’t quite lived up to the hype, the ex-Gers midfielder appears to have finally got his career back on track after being named as captain at Fleetwood Town.
Rossiter joined Rangers from Liverpool under Mark Warburton but an injury-hit time at the club saw the likeable Scouser make a handful of appearances in his four-year stint in Scotland.
Despite being praised by Gerrard when he took the reins at Ibrox in 2018, Rossiter only managed five appearances under the Liverpool icon before signing for Fleetwood permanently in 2020 after a couple of stints away from Ibrox on loan.

Since joining the Cod Army, Rossiter has finally appeared to banish the injury problems that plagued his Rangers career and the 24-year-old is delighted to get the opportunity to wear the armband for Simon Grayson’s League One side, telling Fleetwood’s website: “I’m delighted – for the gaffer to give me the armband and the opportunity to lead the lads was great to hear.
“The captaincy won’t change me as a player either on or off the pitch, I’m just going to be the same as I always am – it’s good that the gaffer is trusting me with the armband, and I can’t wait to wear it this season.
“I’m an easy-going lad and feel like I want to take on all the added responsibility. I’m always here to help anyone no matter what the situation is but, I don’t think it’ll change much on a day-to-day basis as it’s a really good dressing room, the only thing that’s changed is I’ll have something on my arm on Saturday.”
The ex-Rangers midfielder’s stint as captain didn’t get off to the best of starts, losing 1-0 to Portsmouth in the opening fixture of the League One season.
However, after so long sidelined at Rangers it’s great to see Rossiter has finally got his career back on track.
With 56 appearances for Fleetwood so far, Rossiter might not quite be living up to the next Steven Gerrard tag but he’s clearly made a big impression in the north-west of England.
At only 24, there’s still plenty of time for him to climb up the leagues and try get back to the level of club he was once at.
