The car held an extraordinary place in his heart because he had saved up all the money himself and then restored it to its former glory. So this car was almost like one of his children.

His middle son, John, loved helping his dad clean the Corvette when he was growing up. In fact, some of his most treasured memories were spending warm fall mornings helping his dad clean the car.
John had dreams of driving his dad’s car one day and feeling the pedals beneath his feet, a feeling his father had only ever experienced. Of course, that dream seemed impossible as Bill was very protective of his precious car.
However, Bill changed his mind when John turned 21. On John’s birthday, his father took him aside and said, “Son, you have been driving for over 3 years, and I am so proud of you…”

“As a birthday gift, I want you to drive my Corvette for the evening! Pick up your friends, grab some pizza, and enjoy yourself tonight! But no drinking!” John was elated! He could finally drive his dream car!
So John drove the car and went out with his friends. After a few hours, his father sent him a text to check in, but John did not reply. A few more hours passed, but still, Bill did not get a reply from his son.
Eventually, Bill texted all of John’s friends, and each one said that he had dropped them off at their home. However, John had still not arrived home, and naturally, Bill was becoming very nervous about where his son and his beloved car were.

Thinking that perhaps John had spent the night at a friend’s or girlfriend’s place, Bill went to sleep, but he was still worried about his car and son. John did not return home all night.
As Bill was sipping his morning coffee, a very disheveled and wet John walked through the door. Bill got up so fast that his coffee mug hit the floor, as he ran over to John to give him a big hug.
After several minutes of making sure his son was okay and hearing the highlights from his night, Bill’s anxiety took over, and he blurted out, “So how’s my car?”

John looked at his feet and then back at his dad and said, “Don’t worry about it, but I think there is water in the carburetor.”
Bill was perplexed and exclaimed, “Water in the carburetor? That’s impossible! Where is it?”
“In the pool…”
