FX Chief On “Alien” TV Series Tone & Date

One of the most anticipated series on FX’s roster is also one that’s still early in development – a series set within the “Alien” franchise from “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley.

The Television Critics Association summer tour is currently underway, and FX Network chief John Landgraf offered an update on how the series is progressing.

He says the plan is for a “very grounded” work highly attuned to all the franchise films that came before it

“I think Noah’s very conscious of the fact that there’s a cinematic universe. [There’s] some inventiveness and originality that is uniquely Noah… [but] I think you’ll also see that the show will feel like a part of the cinematic universe you’re familiar with in terms of Alien.”

Landgraf adds that the series is “a beast… a really big, world-building exercise.” As for when we might see it, he says he’s optimistic the show will probably roll out in 2023 but “we want to get it right” so could see a delay.

Landgraf also revealed that Hawley’s planned adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s “Cat’s Cradle” is not moving forward at FX, but says: “if there’s another entity that wants to support the commission that will move forward, but not under the FX brand.”
