Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to express his concern over what’s happening to Barcelona wonderkid Pedri, who is a target for Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, it’s safe to say that the 18-year-old is being somewhat overused.

After being named in Spain’s starting XI to face Brazil in the Olympic Games final today, Pedri will have now played 73 games this season.

The teenager made six appearances for Spain at EURO 2020, and also played 52 games for Barcelona during the 2020/21 campaign.

At such a tender age, it’s a bit worrying to see the prodigy burdened with a workload like this.

Hopefully, he doesn’t suffer any long-term injuries as a result.

Lineker also expressed concern at Pedri’s treatment – you can see the BBC Match of the Day host’s tweet in full below.

Liverpool want Pedri

Interestingly, Pedri is believed to be a target for Liverpool.

The Spaniard is said to have a £70m release clause written into his contract at the Camp Nou, which in truth, seems a bargain for a player with this much potential.

At this stage, it looks like Pedri is more than capable of being another Xavi or Andres Iniesta.

In our view, with Barcelona in serious financial difficulty, Liverpool should test the waters with a huge bid.

Should his release clause be met, Barcelona might not be able to refuse such an amount of money.

They couldn’t even afford to keep the greatest player of all time at the club after Lionel Messi’s departure, which says it all.

A midfield trio of Pedri, Thiago and Fabinho would have it all – Jürgen Klopp and Michael Edwards should certainly go for it.
