Here’s the reason behind Shaun Keaveny leaving BBC Radio 6

BBC Radio 6 music host Shaun Keaveny presented his final show on September 10, 2021 after 14 years. So what’s his next job and how can you listen?

The day that every 6 Music fan dreads has arrived: Shaun Keaveny has hosted his last afternoon gig.

The 49-year-old invited his loyal listeners into his ‘pub’, The Open Arms, for the final hurrah before he moves on after 14 years at BBC.

Do not fret, because this isn’t the end of the witty broadcaster. While one door has closed, another has opened in the form of a podcast. This means that you can enjoy Shaun’s voice over and over again – we won’t judge you.

WHY IS SHAUN KEAVENY LEAVING BBC RADIO 6?

Back in June 2021, Shaun shared the surprising choice to exit the gig that established him as one of the UK’s most distinguished broadcasters.

Shaun thanked his listeners for their continued support in a press release, stating that change was the reason behind the decision.

“Things change, places change, people change, and it’s time for a change, after 14 years (it will seem longer to many) I’m leaving 6 Music. You have been there through births, marriages, deaths, divorces, get togethers, break ups, great sandwiches, bad curries, deceased pets, the lot. You have been unceasingly funny, always kind, always there with pendantry or support for even the silliest feature idea.

I will be back with something soon, and I hope you’ll come along for the ride. In the meantime, feel free to buy me a pint in the Open Arms later, and remember, I love you.”

Particularly during lockdown, the host has been a source of comfort and entertainment while listeners have been working from home.

Sure enough, fans took to social media to express their disappointment and one listener ‘cried into a chip butty’ – the only way the British know how to cry.

WHAT IS SHAUN KEAVENY’S NEXT JOB?

As promised, Shaun will be hosting his own podcast, titled The Line-Up. His love for music is not a secret, so he’ll be discussing all things festival-related.

If you need tips for your first festival, he’ll have you covered – the best snacks, best tents, and the tactical ways to minimise the grossness.

You’ll find out his dream music line-up, his unforgettable moments from the years of festivals and he’ll be welcoming top artists and actors for the hot seat.

Podnews reports that Imagine Dragons, Manic Street Preachers and Doctor Who actress Jodie Whittaker, will be some of his guests. Imagine Dragons will allegedly be the first star.

HOW TO LISSTEN TO THE LINE-UP

The Line-Up will be available to listen Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Amazon Music.

There has been no confirmation of when the first episode will be uploaded.
