Hibs boss Jack Ross takes aim at Josh Doig suitors over delays in finalising deal

Hibs boss Jack Ross has given a blunt explanation over the return of Josh Doig to his squad for the Europa Conference League draw and took aim at an unnamed club for not following through on their interest in the defender.

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND – JULY 22: Josh Doig of Hibernian FC before the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round first leg match between Hibernian FC and FC Santa Coloma at Easter Road on July 22, 2021 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Doig was named on the bench at Easter Road on Thursday night, and Ross admitted that Hibs had been “very strongly led to believe” a deal would be close to completion for the left-back amid links with Arsenal, West Ham, Burnley and Watford.

However, nothing has materialised and Ross insists Doig will now be back in the squad until something changes.

“I’ve tried to be fairly frank in my explanation of the situation and I will do so again,” Ross said after his side’s 1-1 draw with Rijeka.

“We were very strongly led to believe that things would move quickly. They haven’t done so and if they don’t walk the walk like they talked the talk we will have to take control of the situation again.

“So, from now Josh will be part of my squad again unless something changes.”

Doig is still likely to leave Easter Road soon but it appears that he could get a few more appearances under his belt before a move is completed.
