Horrifying video shows why you should ‘always flush the toilet before you go’

A viral video of a huntsman spider hiding in a toilet has been watched millions of times after being recently shared on TikTok.

In the clip, originally posted on Facebook, a message says to “ALWAYS flush BEFORE you go in Australia”.

The clean and empty toilet is then flushed, only for a giant huntsman spider to land in the bowl.

It swims on the surface of the water as the water continues to be flushed through the bowl and the clip cuts out.

The video was watched 17 million times on TikTok, with more than one million “likes” and 39,000 comments, and people were divided over whether the spider was terrifying or helpless.

The video recently went viral on TikTok

One horrified viewer wrote: “Not me watching on the toilet right now.”

A second person said: “I’m sorry but I would never visit Australia just because of the spiders.”

“I do that because of this video and I’m in the UK,” confessed a third.

Some people were more concerned with the plight of the huntsman spider, with one writing: “Omg get it out!

“Poor thing is drowning. They are not poisonous. Sincerely, an Australian.”

A second wrote: “I’d help him spiders are kinda cute IDK (I don’t know) what y’all go on about.”

According to Healthline, fear of spiders (arachnophobia) is likely to develop in vulnerable people before age 10 and can be the result of a bad experience with spiders.

It can also be caused by environmental factors, such as having parents or siblings with an intense fear of spiders.

The funnel web spider and redback spider are the only deadly species in Australia and there are now antivenoms that make death extremely rare.

Nobody has been killed by a spider in Australia since 1979 and serious bites are rare in urban areas according to an article published this year by australiatravelquestions.com.
