Hotel that featured in Roald Dahl’s The Witches is on hunt to hire own witch

The Headland Hotel provided the backdrop for the 1990 film adaption of The Witches.

In the Roald Dahl story, Cornwall’s grand building was used to host a “witches convention”.

Plenty of moments in the movie horrify children – from turning kids into mice to the Grand High Witch taking off her disguise to reveal her goblin-like face.

So to keep the setting as spooky as possible, the hotel is looking to hire a “witch” of their own.

The Headland, which overlooks Newquay’s Fistral Beach, wants a Grand High Witch to “terrify” both adults and children at the hotel.

Its successful applicant will join the team in time for Halloween.

The hotel is planning a series of spooky afternoon teas where the Grand High Witch will be present.

So candidates must be comfortable with interacting with strangers and talking to children.

Director Veryan Palmer explained: “The Witches is close to our hearts here at The Headland and every October, we like to celebrate the film with a spooky Afternoon Tea tribute.”

The job pays £9.10 an hour plus service charge and a discretionary monthly bonus.

It is a part time/fixed term contract.
