‘I married my 42 year age gap love after my family called the police on him’

Audrey Cheyenne-Smiley Moon, 19, and husband Kevin, 61, met on a dating app and clicked instantly – but despite being head over heels for her new beau, her family had some reservations

Audrey and Kevin met on dating app Badoo

A teenager who married a man 42 years older than her says her parents have finally welcomed him into the family – after calling cops on him the first time they met.

Audrey Cheyenne-Smiley Moon, 19, met hub Kevin, 61, on dating site Badoo in January 2020.

The teen, who works as a military police officer, was attracted to Kevin’s bio, which said he was also a veteran and had worked for the military police.

Despite more than four decades between them, Audrey was keen to know more and started chatting to him through the app.

Within a few months, they were a couple and exchanged the three big words: “I love you.”

In July 2020, the couple, who live in California, finally met in person for the first time and shared their first kiss.

Audrey said: “I was both excited and nervous to see him.

“Kevin made the first move. He took my face in his hands and we had our first kiss when we first met face to face.

“We can both agree truly that it was love at first sight.”

Neither of the pair had been in an age-gap relationship before, but they claim the 42 years between them don’t matter when they share so much in common.

Audrey said: “Our first conversation was about the military and he asked questions about me and we became very open to each other.

“We talked about everything together.”

Before meeting Audrey, Kevin had been married for 19 years. He has two kids, aged 23 and 16, and he claims they’re in full support of his new relationship.

But Audrey’s new beau didn’t make a great first impression with her parents, who are 38 and 43.

The teen initially decided to keep her new relationship secret from her mum and dad due to the age gap, but she finally told them in August last year.

“My family was extremely hostile about meeting him at first because we told them about us in a bad way.

“I texted them while I was away with him and we came back to my parent’s house to my entire family and the cops waiting outside.

“It was scary at first but Kevin was ready to stand for what he believed in and now after getting to know him, my family has really grown to like him.

For three days, they yelled at him every time he came to see me and did everything they could to tell him how terrible he is for loving me.”

But after Kevin patiently stayed by Audrey’s side despite the anger they threw his way, her family softened.

“We haven’t heard any negative comments from strangers yet, but we have gotten looks but we normally don’t mind them. We focus on ourselves,” she said.

The newlyweds eloped to tie the knot at a small chapel in Nevada on 1 August of this year, and they can’t wait for their future together.

They have their sights set on a new house and a baby – with Kevin being a stay-at-home dad.

“He wants to cook and clean for me until I come home. Then we spend time as a family,” Audrey said.

“We just want to be together and never separate again. We are eager to have our baby – it is just finding the right time.

“Our lives make it difficult for dreams like that but we know in time we will live our dream.”

Despite being married, Audrey’s job currently has her stationed in the Middle East while Kevin is at home in California. When he retires next year, they plan to move in together.

Audrey said: “What makes our relationship work even thousands of miles away from each other is our constant communication.

“We are always very affectionate towards each other and when times get hard, we try to focus on what we are fighting for. We talk about the future we can have together when our time apart is no longer.”

“I still look at him with eyes filled with pure love and joy and he looks at me the same way. Sometimes we get so happy we start to cry.

“I love how passionate and patient he is. He is also a very giving person and very kind. He has such a pure and loving soul.”

She added most people her age are “inconsiderate and selfish” but Kevin isn’t like that at all.

Audrey said: “He is my soul mate and that is something worth fighting for. Love is endless and indescribable.

“Kevin and I want to show the world that we aren’t the stereotypical sugar daddy or gold digger relationship.”

Kevin said when he first saw Audrey’s profile, he thought she was cute but he was just looking for a friend to chat with.

“I was actually looking around my area and ages 30 to 50. Her profile shouldn’t have popped up. Something told me to look at it and something told me to like it, so I did.

“I found a new best friend and fell in love with my best friend.”
