The Women’s World Boxing Championships will be held in Istanbul, Turkey in December, according to the International Boxing Federation (AIBA). Umar Kremlev, President of AIBA, signed an agreement with the Turkish Boxing Federation to officially grant the country hosting rights. The women’s world boxing championships, as well as the AIBA Youth Men’s championships, were originally scheduled for Kielce, Poland, in April. The men’s event, on the other hand, went ahead as planned, but the women’s was postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis.

According to AIBA, the event is expected to take place in early December this year.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the Turkish Ministry of Sports and Kremlev for selecting our country and our Federation as the host of the Women’s Boxing World Championships in the sport of boxing,” said Eyüp Gözgeç, President of the Turkish Boxing Federation.

Kremlev, on the other hand, expressed gratitude to the Turkish federation for agreeing to host the postponed world boxing championships for women.

“I am pleased to announce that the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will be held here in Istanbul. Turkey is a large boxing nation with a long history. “I would like to express my gratitude to all Turkish authorities, including the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Turkish Boxing Federation, and others, for their support,” said AIBA President. “In the sport of boxing, gender equality is one of our main goals. I am pleased to confirm that the medalists will receive the same prize money as the men’s World Championships. “”For the first time in AIBA’s 75-year history, medalists will receive substantial prize money from the organization. The prize pool for the competition has been set at $2,6 million USD. The first-place prize is $100,000 USD. “Silver medalists will receive $50,000 USD, while bronze medalists in each weight category will receive $25,000.” Kremlev concluded. From the 24th of October to the 6th of November, the AIBA Men’s World Championships will be held in Serbia, Belgrade. The Women’s National Championships will begin on October 21.
