Instagram down as thousands of users left fuming over ‘error’

Instagram users around the world have been left fuming at the platform going down on Wednesday afternoon.

Reports of problems with the photo sharing app, sky rocketed shortly after midday with thousands complaining it is down.

Nearly 7,000 reports of Instagram being out of service have been lodged with Downdetector, which offers a real-time overview of issues and outages for all kinds of services.

Over half of them have been issues with the app with the rest split between users’ server connection and feed.

Someone commented on the forum: “I thought my insta got taken down or something”

“Insta.. down.. page won’t refresh,” another wrote.

A third added: “Does anyone know how long until its sorted?”

Instagram users feared they were the only ones affected

Downdetector’s live graph of Instagram being down shows there was an initial spike of 860 reports soon after 8am on Wednesday.

The reports died down until 12:30pm when suddenly 6,686 reports flooded in.

People have taken to Twitter to laugh at the world’s reaction to being unable to browse stories and upload their own snaps.

Others revealed they suspected their internet was to blame for the lack of refreshing.

A Twitter user posted: “I thought our internet wasn’t working, it’s funny because we just had upgraded our Wi-Fi last week and it wasn’t working when I opened Instagram haha. Got annoyed with our Wi-Fi, even unplugged and re-plugged it only to found out on Twitter that it’s down lol.”

It is not a great day for online technology as thousands of UK Sky broadband customers were disappointed to wake up still without an internet connection.

From 9.45pm on Wednesday more than 2,300 people had reported having issues with their Sky internet, according to DownDetector.
