Is Welcome to Plathville real or scripted?

NOW that Welcome to Plathville is coming back for another season, new fans may have some questions about the TLC series.

The show follows the Plath family of Georgia and has specifically been following some of the older kids who have broken away from the strict fundamentalist Christian family more closely in recent episodes.

Is Welcome to Plathville coming back?

The TLC series that follows Kim and Barry Plath and their children — Ethan, 23, Hosanna, 21, Micah, 20, Moriah, 18, Lydia, 17, Isaac, 15, Amber, 12, Cassia, 11, and Mercy, 8, as well as Ethan’s wife, Olivia — has been on for two seasons already.

The show is returning for another season on August 17.

It will be the third season of the reality TV show.

Is Welcome to Plathville real or scripted?

The premise of the series is that Kim and Barry raised their kids in a strict, conservative Christian environment and limited access to technology and the outside world. The kids didn’t even eat sugar!

This might seem harsh to viewers, and maybe too harsh for some viewers to believe.

As it turns out, some aspects of Welcome to Plathville are exaggerated.

For instance, the Plaths do not live full-time on a farm the way the first season made it seem. In the second season, the family “moved” to another house in town, and now rent out that first house as an Airbnb.

Some fans question whether all the drama on the show is real or scripted, like the relationship issues between Ethan and Olivia Plath

Fans have pointed out over the years that, despite her strict upbringing, Moriah was shown wearing makeup and clothing that certainly didn’t fit the “modest” image of her family, even before she moved out of the house.

The older kids — Ethan, Micah, and Moriah — have clearly started to follow their own paths, causing tension with their parents.

But as much as Ethan, Olivia, Moriah, and Micah talk about their strained relationship with their parents, Micah and Moriah still seem to be in touch with Kim and Barry pretty regularly.

Plus, Ethan and Olivia’s relationship has been struggling a bit on the reality series, but they seem pretty happy on social media.

It’s likely that a lot of the drama and storylines of Welcome to Plathville are overblown and somewhat scripted but come from a real place. It’s reality TV, after all!
