I’ve put up my Christmas decorations three months early

A MUM-OF-THREE spent more than £1k on Christmas decorations that she put up more than three months early to spread some cheer.

Last year Caroline Gabe, 47, from Wales, made international news with her impressive, early festive display and this year she’s only gone and done it again.

The mother’s elaborate show includes more than 4,800 fairy lights draped over her house, a series of huge inflatable snowmen and some dazzling sparkling snow.

Last year she explained that she installed the display so far in advance to offer some cheer to her neighbours after a “horrible and surreal” year.

This time round, speaking to Wales Online she said: “Things haven’t really improved much this year either, have they?

“If anything it’s been just as bad, what with coronavirus case figures back on the rise – what is more, I also lost my cousin Julie to cancer back in the spring and she was always such a lover of Christmas.

“So this time round I’ve put up the decorations in her honour too. They remind me of her and I know she’s looking down right now and loving it all.”

Caroline has even taken things further this year with the addition of an 8ft inflatable Santa and this year she’s got 4,800 warm white lights – up from 3,000 last year.

The entire scene took 12 hours to set up but she doesn’t know – and doesn’t want to know – how much it costs.

She said: “It’s nice to put a smile on others’ faces and it also brings me and my kids a lot of joy.”
