JAMES Nesbitt has revealed a battle with alopecia has caused his hair to thin after fans were left baffled by his “drawn-on” eyebrows.
The Cold Feet star appeared on The One Show on Tuesday’s programme but many viewers were distracted by the shape of his brows.
However, it has now been revealed that a makeup department on his latest acting project had applied fake eyebrows as James, 56, has a form of alopecia.
MailOnline revealed James had just come off set before his video interview on The One Show, and was still wearing the fake eyebrows, which were a different shape to his own.
A source close to the actor told the outlet: “James has no issue at all with having alopecia.
“He’s been living with it for some time and it does not affect his life in any way.
“James has never tried to hide it while away from filming. But when he’s in character, it’s normal for make-up to be applied on that area where there is now no hair.”
James has a condition called alopecia areata, which affects two per cent of the population.
It can cause hair loss on the scalp, face and other parts of the body, but in James’ case, it only affects his eyebrows and small areas of his beard.
One viewer wrote on Twitter after his appearance on the show: “What is going on with James Nesbitt’s eyebrows? Did he draw them on while riding a unicycle along a cobbled street?”
Another quipped: “James Nesbitt’s eyebrows are something to behold. It’s as if he’s fallen asleep and some mischievous children have got the felt tip pens out.”
James was also on the show to promote Soccer Aid and discussed how the event would help even more children this year, after the coronavirus pandemic.
