Jane Lynch and more join Broadway’s ‘Funny Girl’

Hey, Mr. Arrrrrnstein! And Eddie. And Mrs. Brice, too.

The forthcoming Broadway revival of “Funny Girl” announced more casting on Wednesday.

Joining Beanie Feldstein as Fanny Brice, the storied role made famous by Barbra Streisand, are Ramin Karimloo as hotshot gambler Nick Arnstein, Jared Grimes as dancer pal Eddie and Jane Lynch as Fanny’s mom Rosie.

“Funny Girl” begins performances at the August Wilson Theatre on March 26, 2022, and opening night is April 24.

The revival marks the second Broadway outing for Lynch, best known for TV’s “Glee” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” after she played mean Miss Hannigan in “Annie” in 2013.

Karimloo has the distinction of playing the Phantom in both Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” and its ill-fated sequel, “Love Never Dies,” in London. Stateside he’s been seen as the villain in “Anastasia” and as Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables.”

Grimes, meanwhile, has trod the boards relatively recently — in the Tony-winning revival of “A Solider’s Play” last season.

“Funny Girl,” which boasts composer Jule Styne’s (“Gypsy”) classic tune “Don’t Rain On My Parade” and a spruced-up book by Harvey Fierstein, has not been seen on Broadway since it closed at the Winter Garden Theatre 54 years ago.
