Johnny Depp Says He’s A Victim In Ongoing Hollywood Boycott

Following the recent saga of his divorce from actress Amber Heard, Johnny Depp believes this has led to his upcoming movie Minamata getting blacklisted.

The actress filed for a divorce after one year of marriage accusing the actor of physical and emotional abuse due to the influence of drugs and alcohol. Following the situation, both stars released a joint statement saying; ” the relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love… there was never any intent of physical or emotional harm.”

While their divorce continued to make headlines, Depp sued The Sun for regarding him as a “wife-beater” in one of their articles in 2018. The High Court Of Justice has ruled that 12 of the 14 violence accusations laid on Depp by Heard were “substantially true.”

Heard alleged that Johnny Depp abused her physically and verbally since they got married hence the reason she filed for a divorce.

Hollywood Blacklists Minamata

Due to the backlash surrounding him, Depp’s movie titled “Minamata” got shunned by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures as there has been no official release date disclosed to the media.

Albeit, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures assured that “Minamata” is on its schedule for future movie releases. Depp said in an interview that they told the people living in Minamata that they would not be ‘exploitative’ and that the movie would be ‘respectful.’

He then maintained that he and his team have kept their side of the bargain and it’s left for them to keep theirs.
As the film concerns and affects those in Minamata, and people experience similar things they acted in the movie, he expressed his hurt over the boycott, but asserted that he’s moving towards bringing things to light.

The movie “Minamata” depicts the realities of people living in Minamata, and Depp put in a lot of work to bring these experiences to life. He expressed sadness over the fact that he has been blacklisted.

A Step To Victory In Ongoing Legal Proceeding

As legal proceedings continue between Depp and Heard, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor has accrued some win against his ex-wife.

He recently filed for a petition to find out if she indeed donated the seven million dollars settlement fund he gave her to a charity organization as she insisted that she would. Luckily, the petition was granted by the New York Judge.

The Judge has however ordered the American Civil Liberties Union and Children’s Hospital to release documents indicating that Heard has donated the fund. Initially, the “Aquaman” actress mentioned that the alimony settlement fund she received from Depp would be donated to charity.

Since the divorce proceedings, Depp has lost several movie roles and has also faced the same challenge as regards his upcoming movie. He was declined a feature in the upcoming “Fantastic Beasts” franchise, as Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald.

However, while the actor faces numerous blacklisting, his ex-wife continues to get featured in iconic movies.

Since the abuse allegations against Depp went viral, the actor has received mixed reactions from fans and non-supporters online. Constantly, users went back and forth about the accusations, and how the actor’s defense throughout the legal battle with earth.

Although many believed that the actor was innocent of the crimes laid against him, there were not enough facts to back up their claims. Many close friends and ex-partners reached out to the media in support of the actor, but all this was to no avail.

Now, the actor seems to be trying to regain his integrity in the media, and so far, it seems like he is not making any headway. However, that has not stopped his fans from consistently showing him support and cheering him to press on no matter what.

Although millions of fans poured in their reactions to the messy situation that stemmed from Depp and Heard’s divorce, they are indulging the actor to move on and get the best out of life.

ACLU Donation

The legal representatives of the “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” star asserted that Heard lied about donating the settlement fund to ACLU and the Children’s Hospital located in Los Angeles.

The team, therefore, alleged that this led to the actor losing his libel case against The Sun for referring him as a “wife-beater” in 2018– the same statement Depp debated in court that resulted in a High Court Judge ruling against him saying the accusations were “substantially true,” and that he did in fact assault her ex-wife.

Depp’s attorney Andrew Caldecott debated that Heard spoke about the donation at the time because she wanted to come up with a “calculated and manipulative lie” in the hopes of gaining more support in and out of court.
