Lil Nas X wears three gold outfits on Met Gala 2021 red carpet

Nothing “lil” about this look.

Lil Nas X arrived at the 2021 Met Gala on Monday ready to throw down — fashionably — in a three-part Atelier Versace outfit that required him to strip down on the red carpet with the aid of a dedicated team.

X’s first look was a beaded, high-collared golden cape (seen above), which featured a long, sweeping train.

But underneath the regal look was a futuristic, C3PO-worthy suit of armor, revealed with the help of X’s team.

The effect was similar to one Lady Gaga pulled at the 2019 Met Gala, which took a similarly strippy path to revealing a series of different outfits.

The “Montero” singer wore the same set of black boots for all three looks, along with a set of grills, earrings and gold embellishments at the corners of his eyes.

X may also have been drawing inspiration from Billy Porter’s over-the-top look at the 2019 Met Gala, which had him decked out as an Egyptian ruler, complete with a coterie of buff men to ferry him into the event on a raised litter.

Whatever the inspo was, it was clearly meant to top the singer’s look at the VMAs the night before, which — though also Atelier Versace — was a comparatively much simpler purple suit with a long train, which he paired with a mullet.

X also appears to have sufficiently recovered from his night out after the VMAs, which ended with him being carried to the car by his bodyguards.
