‘Long Island Medium’ Theresa Caputo Faces Criticism Over 9/11 Special

Theresa Caputo has a keen sense for when a spirit is stepping forward, but does she know when criticism is doing the same?

The jury’s still out on that one, but The Blast is here to tell you that people are NOT happy with the “Long Island Medium” star.

On Thursday, August 12, TLC announced there will be brand-new special titled “Long Island Medium: In Memory of 9/11.”

This September 11 marks the 20th anniversary since the World Trade Center and Pentagon were attacked by terrorists.

TLC released a trailer for the special on Thursday. They captioned the 3:04 long video, “New Special. 20 years ago the world changed forever. Now, Theresa Caputo is using her gift to bring messages of healing and heroism on the news special #LongIslandMedium: In Memory of 9/11.”

Theresa will connect with the family members of loved ones who passed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks in hopes to bring peace of mind and comfort.

The special is set to air on September 9 at 10 p.m. on TLC.

Theresa took to Facebook to announce the news.

“I have to separate myself while I’m reading and not let my emotions in. I wasn’t able to do that here,” she wrote.

Her post continued, “I’m so honored to have been given the privilege of being trusted to channel the souls of their loved ones.”

In the sneak peek released by TLC, the medium meets with a daughter of a flight attendant who was on Flight 11 when the plane tragically crashed into the World Trade Center.

She will also meet with a family in Pennsylvania who lost loved ones on Flight 93.

There are many other families featured in the special who all lost loved ones on that fateful day.

While the idea of the special may sound good in theory, it appears not everyone is on-board with Theresa and TLC capitalizing off of such a tragic event.

One critic wrote, “Once again exploiting these poor desperate family members lying to them into making them believe she can speak to the dead like COME ON PEOPLE!”

The upset commenter continued, “Everyone knows he made a call from the plane it’s on YouTube and everyone knows there is a photo of that mom with debris all over her face and body omgggg this makes me sick to my stomach.”

Another highly upset person wrote, “It is exploitation bc these people want to believe the things she says. Of course she would never say anything bad, but the constant, “he’s happy, he’s at peace with it, he didn’t suffer, he’s watching over you, he’s proud of you, etc.” is lying so that Theresa Caputo can make a buck! Now if she said, ‘The proceeds from this story are going to the families of the victims’ I’d be okay with it, but of course they’re getting paid too, some want their 15 minutes of fame, some might even believe what she says. It’s the exploitation of these people that gets me. They deserve to move on. They deserve to heal. Of course, they will sign an NDA so they won’t be able to take about their experiences!”

“Shame on her for exploiting their loss as her show,” yet another person wrote.

On a positive note, Pete Davidson and Jon Stewart are putting on a comedy benefit with proceeds going to a number of 9/11 charities.
