Love Island fans were left cringing on Sunday night as they watched Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole’s awkward meetup on last night’s reunion episode.
Furious Love Island fans saw show villain Jake, 24, tell ex-girlfriend Liberty he is “too busy” to pursue a relationship since his departure from the famous villa.
“Even if we were together, it wouldn’t work because I’m so busy,” said the Cornish water engineer.
Jake was not present during Sunday’s Love Island reunion, with host Laura Whitmore revealing at the beginning of the special: “Jake can’t be with us as he isn’t feeling well this evening.”
The pre-recorded meet-up aired later on the show with Jake leaving viewers fuming with his arrogant and insensitive remarks.
When asked why he hadn’t been in contact with his bombshell ex, 22, since they landed back on English soil, Jake answered: “I FaceTimed you a couple of times…”
To which the Birmingham babe interrupted, saying: “Once… Yeah it was once.
“It’s hard obviously I still have feelings for you. I just feel like at the time it wasn’t working and I just feel there hasn’t been an effort to make it work properly,” she went on.
Undeterred, Jake replied: “Even if we had been together it wouldn’t have worked, I am so busy.”
Rising above the dig, Liberty challenged him by stating: “Kaz and Tyler and everyone else is really busy and they still make time for each other.”
Fan favourite Liberty went on to wish her ex “the best”, adding that they “weren’t meant to be”.
Liberty and Jake had a strong start on the ITV dating show, sticking together from the offset and then becoming boyfriend and girlfriend as the series progressed.
But things began to crumble towards the end of the season, as Liberty began to doubt Jake’s intentions, resulting in their ultimate decision to call it quits.
Furious fans took to Twitter to react to the pair’s interaction.
“Wow Jake! Wow! He said he is too busy?! This guy is an absolute douchebag! Liberty definitely missed a bullet,” one wrote.
Another fumed: “How is Jake saying even if they stayed together, it wouldn’t work because he’s too busy… then why go on Love Island?”
Elsewhere on Sunday’s reunion, winners Liam and Millie were reunited with Liam’s former Casa Amor flame Lillie, while Faye reacted to footage of her expletive-ridden rant, admitting: “I would have been complaining about it too. Not my finest moment.”
