Man City to restart contract talks with 14-goal ace; club wanted to use him in Kane deal

Manchester City have reportedly restarted talks with Raheem Sterling over a new contract with the club.

According to the Sun, the England international will sit down with the Premier League champions to discuss fresh terms. Sterling is one of City’s highest-paid players but has just two years remaining on his current contract.

As well as Sterling, John Stones is expected to sign a new deal with City following an incredible season alongside Ruben Dias. The duo were the best defensive partnership in the league last campaign by some distance.

It was uncertain whether or not Sterling would stay this summer after a somewhat underwhelming season last year.

The winger hit 14 goals in all competitions as the attacker aided City to their first UEFA Champions League final and a fifth Premier League title.

Indeed, Sterling’s future is unclear. But following an excellent Euro 2020 campaign, the attacker looks set to remain at City for the next few years.

That’s not to say that the club are eager to keep hold of him. After all, L’Equipe reported via the Mirror that City were keen to use Sterling as a potential bargaining tool in a deal to bring Harry Kane to the Etihad Stadium.

However, given the economic climate of football at the moment and Sterling’s reported £300,000-a-week wages, a move to another club could be difficult for the time being.

And with the winger impressing over the summer, the former Liverpool star would be an excellent option in Pep Guardiola’s arsenal as City aim to retain the league title and win the Champions League.
