Marching Band Performs Medley of Country Music During Akron Game Halftime

A country music halftime show? I’ll take it…

It wasn’t much of a football game in Columbus yesterday, as the Ohio State Buckeyes put a hurting on Akron Zips, something to the tune of 59-7.

But during the halftime show, the marching band tipped the cap to country music with a medley of hits from the past decade. The band was also joined by the alumni band members for the first time since 2019, putting a whopping 600 musicians on the field for the performance.

Songs included Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party,” Tim McGraw’s “I Like It, I Love It,” Rascal Flatts’ “Me and My Gang,” Carrie Underwood’s “Cowboy Casanova,” Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places,” and Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise.”

The alumni members added performances of “Wagon Wheel” and Tom Cochrane’s “Life Is A Highway,” which was also covered by Chris LeDoux in 1998 and Rascal Flatts in 2005.

And while I’d like to see the band handle a little Tyler Childers or Cody Jinks, it’s pretty cool to see the salute to the genre.
