McDonald’s customers left baffled over ‘expired’ Monopoly game stickers

McDonald’s Monopoly returned to our lives on August 25 and we’re all so excited.

It came back this month after taking an extended two-and-a-half year break due to coronavirus.

Now the game is back in business, customers have been left confused over “expired” tickets which went out of date months ago.

But there is an explanation as to why McDonald’s is releasing tokens with the wrong dates.

The fast food giant told customers the tickets are still valid despite being out of date.

It’s because they were printed before the competition was re-scheduled so fans should just ignore the dates.

Pieces which show a “play until” date of May 4, 2021, will still be valid until October 5, 2021.

McDonald’s Monopoly launched in 2005 and it works the same way to the classic board game.

The aim of the game is to collect pieces to complete a set of a colour or train stations.

Each piece represents a tile on the Monopoly board which you can pick up for free in the restaurant or play online.

Then when you complete a set, you get a prize, but there are also “instant wins” which mean you can claim right away.

A McDonald’s spokeswoman said: “Packaging and Game Pieces printed prior to rescheduling couldn’t be securely reprinted in time, so new dates apply – consumers must see the website or ask in restaurants to find details of all rescheduled enter-from/until dates and claim or redeem prizes-by dates.”
