Miss GB finalist defies trolls who mocked looks by competing without make-up

The Miss Great Britain winner will be announced next month as the final takes place across September 16-17, 2021.

Scores of women across the country will be battling it out to scoop the prestigious title.

At the final in Leicester, competitors will parade around the stage in skimpy swimsuits and attempt to win over the judges with their talents.

One female who is running is Elle Seline – and she’s already making history as we speak.

The 31-year-old, from Guildford, is the first ever contestant to run for Miss Great Britain without wearing any make-up.

And she has a very good reason behind it too.

The Daily Star spoke to Elle to find out more about her decision to swerve make-up completely for the beauty pageant, which takes place next month.

Elle, who works for a mental health charity, said: “I chose to go make-up free for a number of reasons.

“Before lockdown make-up was my shield, the barrier between me and others.

“During lockdown when the pressure to go out wasn’t a thing, I called myself out on a lot of home truths and learnt a lot.

“When I entered Ms GB I realised there may be other women who felt that way and decided to take a stand in support of them.”

The pageant star hopes to get the message across to women who use make-up as a crutch on a daily basis.

She added: “If they do wear make-up it should be because they want to not because they feel like they should.

“There is so much pressure in society on women to look a certain way.

“I believe the more we normalise this sort of thing the better future we will leave for the next generation of women and girls.”

Elle, who decided to enter Miss GB as a way to help others, didn’t always have the best life growing up.

When she was in high school, she’d often be ridiculed for her appearance and that meant she had a difficult relationship with herself.

She entered Miss GB in 2019 as a challenge and to put herself out of her comfort zone, which she claimed “definitely worked”.

It made her feel “liberated” and felt empowered about how everyone was so supportive.

She admitted: “It wasn’t anything like the image of pageants society has in their minds.

“Now it’s about who you are not what you look like, lots of women all shapes and sizes enter.

“Ms GB is definitely a celebration of women which I am proud to be part of.”

Elle is now sharing her own body confidence tips to give others advice on entering the world of beauty pageants.

She said: “Body confidence comes within, your body could be any size but if you’re not happy it doesn’t matter what others sees.

“When entering a pageant do not compare yourself to anyone else remember who you are and what you stand for.

“Pageants are very different to what they used to be like, they are inclusive fun and liberating, you will definitely grow as a person.”
