Your wedding day is one of the biggest moments in your life whether you’re the bride or the groom.
And, despite all the stress of planning and the money spent it’s also supposed to be one of the happiest as you wed your partner while surrounded by loved ones.
Unfortunately though not everyone’s big day goes smoothly…
Which is what happened for one groom when his mother turned up to the church with a plus one – his ex-wife.
Yeah, bad right?
Posting on Reddit, the bloke’s new wife explained what happened in the lead up to the wedding.
It turns out that the groom’s family constantly referred to the groom’s ex, Mindy, as “the love of his life” and they frequently meddled in his current partnership.
Despite this, the bride said that her husband did not see Mindy as “the one” and said their marriage had been “toxic”, reports Tyla.
Sadly, despite this, the bride claimed she found it hard to bond with her future husband’s mum as she was “so, so, so in love with Mindy and adored her”.

She explained: “They were pretty close and even got depressed after Mindy moved to another state since she didn’t want to be near my husband.”
But, after his new bride gave birth to a son, the mother-in-laws grandchild, and the groom’s father died it seemed that the two women were able to warm to one another.
The Covid-19 pandemic threw a spanner in the works for the couple who decided to delay getting married and save up for a house.
Eventually, they planned a small, intimate wedding, but the mother-in-law said that she would foot the bill for a bigger day.
This was a decision the couple would come to regret.
The bride explained that when the wedding day arrived the groom’s mum turned up with his ex-wife Mindy in tow.
She said: “When the big day came, she has Mindy by her side and my husband and I are confused, my MIL approached us and we asked her ‘what was happening’, she said that she’d invited her to the wedding because it was a special day.
“My husband said that ‘yes, it was a special day for us, and that Mindy had no business being there and would appreciate if she left’.”

The bride continued: “My MIL looked at me and I said that ‘I would rather that too’, but my MIL got angry and said that she paid for the wedding, and she could invite anyone she wanted, while we both agree, we said that ‘Mindy wasn’t really ‘anyone’ and that it was the fact that she didn’t told us before rather that inviting her’.
“She said that if Mindy had to go, she’ll follow, and my husband said ‘then do’.
“She ended up saying that she’s gonna stay but that we had to tell Mindy to leave which my husband gladly did, and my MIL spent all the evening mad, after the wedding we offered to pay for half of it or even everything if she wanted but she said that the damage was already done.”
The woman asked for advice and whether she was in the wrong, but Reddit users were on her side.
One person wrote: “The fact that she quickly pointed out that she is the one who paid for the wedding makes me believe that this was her plan all along.”
“She [MIL] chose an odd and expensive way to try and break you and her son up,” added another.
While a third commented: “I would go no-contact with her faster than I could type this comment.”
