Major Dad to stream on Netflix US

The classic sitcom Major Dad first aired on CBS in 1989 and ran until May 17, 1993. It was one of the top-rated sitcoms at the time and ran for four seasons, with a total of 96 episodes. The sitcom tells the story of a US Marine Major, who marries a journalist. The official synopsis reads, “An unlikely romance follows when a liberal newspaper reporter interviews a gruff Marine officer.”

Season 1 is set at the fictional Camp Singleton. Here, the gruff United States Marine Corps Major John D “Mac” MacGillis is commander of the infantry training school’s acquisition division. With marriage and a ready-made family in the mix, the major finds himself in a household consumed by chaos. Naturally, he finds himself in a situation that is a far cry from what the major is used to in his military life.

Who stars in the popular classic sitcom?

Gerald McRaney plays the lead role of Major John D. MacGillis. He has starred in Netflix’s House of Cards, along with This Is Us, NCIS: Los Angeles, The A-Team and a wealth of other films and series. His co-stars include Shanna Reed as the major’s wife, Polly.

Meanwhile, other cast members include Beverly Archer, Matt Mulhern, Jon Cypher, Marisa Ryan, Nicole Dubuc, and Chelsea Hertford.

Will Major Dad receive any special treatment?

The series is not expected to receive any special treatment before its release on Netflix and will likely be in its original format. As for Netflix, they have yet to promote the fact that Major Dad is streaming on their channel. It didn’t appear in the September 2021 PR release. However, What’s on Netflix did cover it in their preview for the month.

As the show was originally distributed by Universal Television, you would think Peacock would be the exclusive streaming home, but that isn’t the case.

It is currently unknown how long the sitcom will stream on Netflix. Recently, the streaming channel has been dropping more classic sitcoms than it has gained. However, seeing as how popular Friends, Seinfeld and other popular older sitcoms perform, it is likely that Major Dad will be a welcome addition.

Major Dad hit Netflix on September 1, 2021.
