‘Outlander’ star Caitríona Balfe says Season 6 is ‘twisted’

The Frasers are about to meet a whole new type of enemy.

“Outlander” star Caitríona Balfe recently teased season six of the Starz romantic drama, saying the new storylines will be “heartbreaking” and “twisted.”

The 41-year-old Irish native touched on her character Claire’s life with husband Jamie (Sam Heughan) as they encounter new foes, the Christies, while speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the show.

“‘Outlander’ does baddies and villains quite well,” Balfe said. “[The Christies] aren’t your typical villains, which is great and refreshing.”

The former model then gushed over new additions to the cast, including actress Jessica Reynolds, who plays Malva Christie — the daughter of Jamie’s old enemy Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones).

“Claire and Malva build a great relationship and bond. It’s very destabilizing for Claire. It’s a really heartbreaking, but a really twisted narrative that they all get embroiled in,” Balfe continued.

The fifth season of the time-traveling Scottish series last aired in 2020. New episodes won’t drop until 2022 and filming was halted last year due to the pandemic. Shooting resumed this past February. A month later, the show was renewed for a seventh season.

“Outlander” premiered on Starz in 2014 and is currently filming their sixth season.

Aside from starring as the dashing 18th century Scotsman in “Outlander,” Heughan, 41, and fellow costar Graham McTavish, 60, explored their homeland in a travel docuseries titled “Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham.”

The miniseries hit Starz earlier this year and the pair exclusively told The Post what prompted them to take a trip through the motherland.

“We’re both proud Scotsman and we both wanted to know more,” Heughan said. “The more you dig into it, the more you realize that maybe it’s not as romanticized as it has been portrayed — but it’s such a fascinating country.”

“We both had ideas for wanting to do shows about Scotland,” McTavish added.
