Everton are now ready to make a move for PSV right-back Denzel Dumfries, according to The Liverpool Echo.
What’s the story?
The Liverpool Echo are reporting that Everton want to sign Dumfries on loan from PSV in the summer transfer window.
Everton’s Director of football Marcel Brands is keen on bringing the Netherlands international right-back as a possible long-term successor to Seamus Coleman.
Brands has held ‘several rounds of talks’ with new Everton manager Benitez.
Former Newcastle United manager Benitez has now said that he would have Dumfries in his team.
The Premier League club reportedly plan to make a loan move for the 25-year-old Netherlands international, whose agent is Mino Raiola.
Sensible stance?
Coleman is still a very good right-back and can do a good job for Everton in the Premier League.
The Republic of Ireland international made 18 starts and seven substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.
However, Coleman is 32 now, and the Toffees need to find a good and young(er) successor.
Signing Dumfries on a loan deal would make sense.
It would allow Everton to judge how the 25-year-old does before making a decision on a permanent contract.
The risk associated with such a signing would be much less than making a permanent move.
