Rangers express interest in signing Caleb Chukwuemeka

Rangers are plotting a move for Northampton Town talent Caleb Chukwuemeka, according to a new report from the Daily Mail.

The Gers have brought in a couple of players on pre-contract agreements, with Nnamdi Ofoborh and Fashion Sakala both arriving.

Rangers aren’t done there though and may look to strike a deal for the future by signing Chukwuemeka either now or in January 2022.

Rangers move for Chukwuemeka

It’s claimed that Rangers have now expressed an interest in signing the 19-year-old attacker, who played 28 times for Northampton last season and has been tabbed as having ‘untold ability’ according to his former boss Keith Curle.

Remarkably, the report states that Chukwuemeka doesn’t have a professional contract, and his current youth deal expires next January, meaning they’re at risk of losing him.

If he leaves at the end of his contract, Chukwuemeka would cost just £60,000 in compensation, with Rangers seemingly sensing a bargain.

Aston Villa and Norwich City have been keen too, and the former could be of interest given that Caleb’s brother Carney currently plays for Villa.

Rangers continue their English youth recruitment

If a deal can be pulled off for Chukwuemeka, he would join some other exciting talents Rangers have plucked from English football.

Tony Weston was snapped up from Blackpool last summer, whilst ex-Arsenal talent Malcolm Ebiowei is also in Rangers’ development ranks.

Kane Ritchie-Hosler, formerly of Manchester City, is also at the club, and Chukwuemeka could be Rangers’ latest find for the future whilst shopping south of the border.
